Education

For more than 30 years, the Group has been educating and inspiring children and adults to become stewards of the environment. Through our partnerships with public and private schools, students learn to appreciate and respect all things natural on the East End. During our popular nature outings, we put away our phones so we can listen, explore, and discover.

Nature Outings

Whether you live here or you’re just visiting, we invite you to explore the extraordinary beauty of the East End year-round through our guided nature outings. We lead forest walks, wildlife searches by land and sea, and workshops and lectures for children and adults. If you really want to be hands on, join us for a beach cleanup or habitat restoration, which are fun and meaningful ways to enjoy the outdoors and meet like-minded people.

Community Group Outings

We partner with libraries, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, ROTC chapters, and other community groups to educate and inspire people to protect our land, water, and wildlife. We’ll work with your group to create a fun and interesting outing or presentation on pollinators, native plants, and more!

Outside the Classroom

The Group gets kids outdoors! Our experienced educators work with schools, scouts, and youth groups to offer science-based programs that are engaging, informative, and fun! Students explore forests and estuaries, build gardens, and plant beach grass to prevent erosion on ocean dunes. We inspire kids to embrace nature, whether it’s the awesome sight of an osprey catching a fish or watching fiddler crabs scurry across the sand.

Inside the Classroom

During the colder months, we provide engaging classroom lessons to complement each school’s curriculum. Students from pre-K to 12th grade learn hands-on about Long Island’s geological history, taxonomy, and amazing animal adaptations! Also, why is the tide so high during a full moon? And why is it ecologically important that rainwater has a place to go? Working with science teachers, we help turn students into budding environmentalists.
